Turn a Match Into a Practice Plan

Review a match and choose one useful priority for your next session.

Describe before deciding

Begin with the score, surface, and conditions. Identify two things that worked and one recurring difficulty. Avoid changing your game because of a single unusual point.

Look at the first four shots

For a small sample of points, note serve placement, return depth, the next shot, and where each player recovered. Ask which repeatable pattern gave you time or took it away.

Separate choices from execution

A sensible target can still produce an error. A poor choice can occasionally win. Record what you intended, what happened, and whether the choice fit your position.

Choose one priority

Turn “I need a better return” into a practice task such as “For twenty controlled second-serve returns, aim deep through the middle and recover ready.” Agree a suitable version with your coach.

Review again

Repeat the task during your next planned session. Record the same measure, then test it in points. Use the worksheet below to keep the process consistent.
