A Between-Point Reset

A simple routine to refocus after a difficult point.

Use the same routine after wins and losses

A reset is a way to return attention to the next task. Practice it during ordinary training so it feels familiar in a match.

1. Release

Turn away from the previous point, loosen your grip, and take one comfortable breath. Avoid replaying the error while preparing for the next ball.

2. Notice one useful fact

Choose an observation you can act on: the return was late, the target was too narrow, or the opponent stayed deep. Describe what happened without judging yourself.

3. Choose one cue

Pick a short cue such as “early feet,” “big target,” or “watch the toss.” Keep it connected to your next serve or return rather than an outcome you cannot control.

4. Commit

Set your position, look at the intended target, and play. Keep the routine within the competition’s time rules.

Training challenge

Play a short practice set and use the routine between points. Afterward, rate how consistently you returned to your cue. Judge the routine by attention and follow-through, rather than whether every point was won.
